He is a member of the Nebraska Society of CPAs, the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), and also is a member of the Personal Financial Planning Division of the AICPA. The 2001 Tax Act gave us many rule changes, which served to expand greatly the size and potential usefulness of the various tax-advantaged qualified retirement plans. In addition, many other laws exist (not changed by the 2001 act) which serve to allot different value to various tax issues including (a) marginal tax brackets, (b) standard deductions (for itemizing), (c) inclusion of Social Security benefits (in taxable income), and (d) the treatment of assets heald at death. As a result, you are wise to educate yourself before naively "putting all your eggs in one basket" or engaging in future transactions. It is best to ensure that you are doing all you can to minimize taxes and thus maximize after tax performance, year after year. This will be addressed by Kirk Hicks who will teach you the basic questions you should ask yourself in order to succeed through tax-savvy investing. Attend this meeting and learn:

Ellis Traub, author of "Take Stock: A Roadmap to Profiting from your First Walk down Wall Street" (Dearborn, 2000), is a lifetime member of AAII and has been a contributor to the AAII Journal. His strategy is simply to select about fifteen reasonably diversified companies capable of growing their revenues and earnings at a substantial rate, and whose growth has been stable enough to be able to predict with some confidence that it might continue. He looks to buy these stocks at a reasonable multiple of earnings and to hold them for the long term. That "reasonable multiple" will be based on a conservative assessment of historical price-earnings (PE) ratios. While not a professional fund manager or analyst, he has taught thousands of amateur investors the simple techniques that he refers to as "Technamental Analysis." He is utilizing this approach in the current "Pro Picks" on the AAII website. An alumnus of both Harvard and Cornell, he was a 31-year veteran Captain with Eastern Air Lines; and, in 1986 founded the company that is now Inve$tWare Corporation of which he is chairman of the board. Inve$tWare develops and produces software for the individual investor. P.S. Several of the local board members listened to Mr. Traub speak at the AAII national meeting, and they all felt that he was GREAT! |

In addition, many rule changes were implemented to increase usage of the plans by Americans with Congress' goal being to increase the baby-boomers' retirement savings, the rate of which has been deemed too low by many in power. However, before naively putting "all your eggs into one basket" one should know the answers to the following questions...
