We will setup your WWW and FTP server account. Includes site creation and loading your web site pages.
Included in the Virual Host setup fee is the submission of a "domain name" registration to InterNIC, the organization that keeps track of domain names. You will be billed $100.00 by the InterNIC society for the first two years, and then $50.00 (or the current fee) for each year thereafter.
A domain name is a name, such as mycompany.com, which you are referenced on the Internet. It will be a component of your WWW, FTP and virtual email addresses. Here are some examples:
The name is limited to a maximum of 24 characters including the four characters for ".com" or ".org", and may contain only letters, digits, and a dash. Use ".com" for commercial enterprises and ".org" for non-profit organizations.
By convention, a domain name is unique and must be registered with the InterNIC registration Authority. If you expect to establish an Internet presence, now or in the future, and you want to use a particular domain name, now is the time to get your preferred domain name registered.
The availability of a domain name can be checked by using the INTERNIC Web Interface to Whois.
With the Virual Host server it appears to the outside world that your company is operating its own WWW server. This means that your account can be accessed using a simple locator such as "http://www.mycompany.com" rather than something complicated such as "http://www.bigserver.com/directory/~account/".
Virtual email addresses can be defined so that the email sent to these addresses is automatically forwared to other email addresses. For example, you could define the address info@mycomapny.com and have email to this address forwarded to marketing@big.com.
Email addresses can also be defined that if email is sent to a particular address, such as news@mycompany.com, a specific message will be returned to the sender.
The Virtual Host server supports both WWW and FTP access to your domain name. In addtion to accessing your site usng a WWW browser, a user can access it using a FTP application and an address such as ftp.mycompany.com
